As a dog or cat owner, you want to provide your pet with the best care to keep them healthy. An important step that helps to avoid health issues is the spay and neuter procedures that are provided by our veterinary team at Animal Oasis of the Rockies in Broomfield. Spaying or neutering your pet provides several benefits for you and your fur baby.

The Benefits Of Spaying & Neutering

The primary purpose of spaying or neutering an animal is to eliminate the chance of reproducing. Pet overpopulation is a growing problem in America and one way to do your part is to ensure your pet doesn’t reproduce.

In addition to stopping the reproductive cycle in pets, spaying or neutering also eliminates certain poor behaviors in animals. Pets tend to stop trying to find ways out of the home because they are no longer interested in finding a mate. The pet may not be as vocal as it once was when it was unaltered. Aggression and marking of territory may also cease after your pet's surgery.

Spaying and neutering can also eliminate the risks of certain forms of cancer.

Caring For Your Pet After Surgery

When your pet comes out of surgery, it will need to remain at our animal hospital for the remainder of the day. When we feel it is safe for your pet to be discharged, we will contact you to schedule a pick-up time. After you bring your cat or dog home, make sure to keep them away from any activity for a while. Your pet will need some time to rest.

Your pet should remain in a room away fromother pets so it can recuperate in peace. Continue to monitor your pet frequently. Don't be surprised if they aren't interested in eating or drinking for a while once they return home. If your pet does not regain their appetite the next day, contact our office to schedule a follow-up visit.
